Leigh Sales wins the 2007 George Munster Prize for independent journalism

Leigh Sales has won the prestigious George Munster Prize for independent journalism in 2007 for her book, Detainee 002 The case of David Hicks.  In awarding Leigh the prize, the Director of the Australian Centre for Independent Journalism Chris Nash, said that Leigh won it for her assiduous investigation, the quality of her writing and balanced reporting. Following the presentation, speakers discussed 'From the Tampa via Hicks to Haneef: have the politics of fear lost their bite?'  Speakers included Leigh Sales, ABC National Security Correspondent and winner of the Munster award, Michael Duffy, ABC Radio and the Sydney Morning Herald critic and commentator, and Bret Walker SC, barrister and governor on the board of the NSW Law & Justice Foundation.
