'Money Makers' wins top journalists top award
Fairfax reporters Richard Baker and Nick McKenzie have won the 2010 prestigious George Munster Award for Independent Journalism for their series The Money Makers, a vigorous investigation exposing the Reserve Bank of Australia's role in an international corruption scandal involving bribes worth millions.
Nick Mackenzie and Richard Baker pursued their targets despite stonewalling from the Federal Government and opposition, Austrade, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the RBA and the Australian Federal Police.
Partly as a result of their reporting, the AFP have been forced to launch an investigation to assess the full extent and impact of the corruption which has since grown into an investigation spanning four continents.
